Frequently Asked Questions

The Nashua Education Foundation (NEF) is a non-profit foundation which will improve the well-being of the community by enhancing the quality of education within the Nashua School District.
The mission of the Nashua Education Foundation is to enhance educational opportunities for Nashua public school students.
We accomplish this by:

  • Providing resources to support and inspire innovative educational initiatives.
  • Developing partnerships to leverage community resources to support students and teachers.
  • Working collaboratively with the Nashua School District to understand educational priorities that will inform, but not dictate, funding decisions.
  • Being an efficient and responsible steward of all donations and funds.

Individuals including parents, grandparents, alumni and educators support the NEF through annual gifts, honorariums, one-time contributions and planned giving. Businesses, corporations and larger foundations are also providing support for the NEF.

The NEF is an independent 501(c)(3) charitable organization. The Board of Directors includes the Superintendent and a member of the Board of Education as non-voting ex-officio members. The NEF board limits voting membership for Nashua School District employees to a maximum of 20%. In keeping with its mission the NEF is intended to enhance rather than replace funding for the Nashua School District budget.

The students enrolled in the Nashua School District exclusively benefit from NEF funding. Indirectly, the community at large will benefit from the improved educational experience of Nashua School District students.

Any Nashua School District employee is eligible and encouraged to apply for funding. Community members are also able to partner with an educator to apply for funding.

The NEF board votes on recommendations made by its Funding and Programs Committee. The committee will favor projects that augment and enhance the educational experience.

The NEF is recognized under state and federal law as a 501(c)3 charitable, tax-exempt organization. The Board of Directors carefully oversees donations and grants as stewards of NEF resources. These financial records are open to public review.

The initial Board was selected by an ad hoc steering committee comprised of community leaders interested in public education. The NEF Board members represent varied constituencies throughout the Nashua community. If you are interested in finding more about Board membership, please contact us through our website.

No. Such groups have valid, specific purposes within the public schools and solicit support for limited and special projects. The NEF seeks support from those interested in the broader aspects of education, in order to enhance the opportunities for students across the Nashua School District.

Tax deductible contributions can be made by any individual, business or corporation. Individuals can also volunteer to help with NEF committees and fundraising efforts.
